The "green wire" ground is a personnel safety feature. It doesn't have much of a role in protecting the internal circuitry.
That doesn't mean it can't be used for some equipment protection. I have built surge protectors that routed power line surges from hot to ground and neutral to ground, instead of the more traditional hot to neutral.
There may also be a small protective role for equipment that has other electrical connections, such as TVs, computers, cable boxes, etc. But most of that equipment doesn't have the "green wire" ground.

I just asked a girl form work with perfect curls this Q the other day! She's spanish… has looooong black hair and she curls her hair mid way all the way to the end, like how Jessica Simpson does it.
She says she buys them from Hot Tools.
I briefly looked on their site and they have ceramic curling irons (with other elements like tourmaline and titanium – not sure what their advantages are). So if you don't want to order it from them, just get a ceramic one. I've also heard from friends that ceramic irons/straighteners work really well.
For me, I don't use curling irons… I have straight Asian hair that's like wire it's sooo straight and it sucks when I want curls. After like 5 years of trying out various things, I found out what works best for MY hair…
It's microwaveable rollers! I think my mom got them from avon. You pop each velvet roller in the microwave for like 15 seconds, and roll a section of your hair around it. The set comes in I think 16 rollers, It takes me 10 minutes to get them all on my head, then I wait another 5 or so…. and THEY REALLY LAST! It's supercurly when it comes out I have to even wet it a bit for it to straighten out a bit and even after doing that it still stays.

The problem is not the iron, it's actually the dryer. You need to had a fabric softener sheet to the dryer. It will eliminate all static. I suggest "Bounce Fabric Sheets"
Ok, given the resistance of the unit is X then the electrical current from 120V will be 1.2X higher than it normally is.
That means the power dissipated will be 1.44X higher (power is proportional to the current squared)
It will get hotter and it may/could overheat and catch fire.
